Charles Avery’s musical story has Jacksonville roots: school choruses, the choir at Edward Waters and a gospel group that took its music into churches. This Saturday, the ministry he leads brings a new invitation to the city’s faith community.

Worship Matters Experience presents “HIGHER: Called to Another Level” on October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Trinity Deliverance Christian Church, 6920 North Pearl Street. Admission is free.

The gathering centers on worship and an invitation to grow in faith alongside others. For neighbors looking to spend a Saturday evening in that setting, the North Pearl Street program offers a chance to connect with a Jacksonville-rooted ministry and the purpose behind its work.

Editor's note: Charles Avery’s musical path runs through Jacksonville schools, choirs and churches.

Worship Matters identifies Avery as its visionary. In the organization’s biography, the Jacksonville-born gospel artist began singing in school and later joined the choir at Edward Waters College, now Edward Waters University. He also formed a gospel group that toured churches in Florida and nearby areas.

That background gives the invitation a local connection beyond an address. Avery’s path runs through places where young voices develop: classrooms, a university choir and congregations willing to receive a musical ministry. Those experiences are part of the story behind the person now gathering others around worship.

The ministry’s stated purpose extends beyond any single evening. Worship Matters describes a mission of helping churches, ministries and individuals develop their worship through events and resources. “HIGHER” brings that purpose into a shared gathering this weekend.

For anyone deciding how to take part, the immediate invitation is simply to attend the free program. Those hoping to volunteer or participate in another capacity can contact Worship Matters at info@worshipmattersexperience.com to ask what is available for this date.

Editor's note: The October 17 gathering is free to attend.

There is room in Jacksonville’s event calendar for an evening organized around faith, local creative work and being together. On October 17, that invitation starts at 6 p.m. on North Pearl Street.
