A conversation with someone new can be a good reason to head downtown. On October 22, Sip & Connect gives Jacksonville another: helping turn an evening out into support for the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The gathering begins at 6 p.m. at SIP Cocktail Bar, 323 E. Bay Street. DECCA LIVE is presenting the night for local professionals and business owners, with cocktail tastings and a silent auction featuring contributions from Jacksonville businesses. The organizer advertises free admission with an RSVP for guests 21 or older with valid identification.

The rooftop setting is part of the appeal. SIP looks toward the river and makes craft cocktails a focus of its regular offerings. It gives this gathering a place within downtown's everyday social life—a local venue where business owners and neighbors can step away from their usual routines and spend time in the same room.

Editor's note: A local business contribution can support the auction and introduce new neighbors to its work.

The cause gives those introductions something to gather around. The hosts say auction proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association through the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Bidding opens at 6 p.m., and winners must be present when they are announced. The hosts also plan to walk as the Sip and Connect Crew in November, extending their invitation beyond this one evening.

There is a useful place here for Jacksonville's business community. An auction contribution can put a local business in front of someone who has not encountered it before while supporting the fundraiser. A guest can meet someone whose work interests them, learn more about the walk or simply spend an evening participating in the city's community life. Those are different ways to show up, and none requires arriving with a polished sales pitch.

Come ready to meet people and leave room for a conversation that is about more than work. The hosts request elevated casual attire. Auction winners must be present when they are announced.
